Mike-Ewles.jpg
Chief Ewles was the sixth member to be sworn in as Chief for the DRPS.
Chief Ewles’s career with Durham police has spanned 31 years. Its high points have included the opening of a number of new buildings, including a new training and 911 centre in Whitby. The new operations centre included a firearm range, something the DRPS had not had for 20-plus years. He was involved in the beginning stages of construction on others, such as the new police station and forensics lab in Clarington. He’s also helmed the service at a time when it has been repeatedly lauded for its effectiveness in investigating and clearing major crimes.
Fun Fact
The Community Builder Award is named in honour of retired Chief Mike Ewles. This award was first presented to retired Chief Mike Ewles on October 23, 2014. The award is presented from time to time in recognition of Durham Regional Police Service members who have gone above and beyond the call to build bridges between the Durham Regional Police Service and the many communities it serves.
